Each member of the family helps to develop an evacuation plan.

Montréal, October 7, 2014 - As part of Montréal Fire Prevention and Emergency Management Month, there will be a “Big Evacuation” for Greater Montréal residents at 7 p.m. on October 8. The event, arranged by the Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal (SIM) in co-operation with the Ministère de la Sécurité publique (MSP), will call on all residents, and families in particular, to practise their evacuation plans, at the same time on the same day.

For the fourth edition of this exercise, eight sectors of the Montréal agglomeration are being invited to take part in an evacuation drill supervised by the SIM. This is an opportunity to remind everyone of just how important it is to have a fire evacuation plan and a smoke alarm.

The Big Evacuation will be held in eight sectors on Montréal Island, under the supervision of the SIM:

  • LaSalle borough
Rue Airlie, between 80e avenue and 90e avenue
  • Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough
Avenue Pierre-De Coubertin, between Viau and Théodore
  • Pierrefonds–Roxboro borough
Rue Cloverdale (dead end), from rue Basswood
  • Saint-Léonard borough
Rue de Cannes, between Jean-Talon Est and de Paisley
  • Sud-ouest borough
Avenue Ash, between LeBer and Favard
  • Ville-Marie borough
Rue Logan, between Fullum and Dufresne
  • Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension borough
46e rue, between 24e avenue and boulevard Pie IX
  • City of Westmount
Avenue Melbourne, between Melville and Metcalfe avenues

At 7 p.m. on October 8, Greater Montréal residents will be invited to follow their own evacuation plans and evacuate their homes. Residents in the participating sectors will be supervised by SIM staff. Note that these residents have already been notified of this supervised exercise.

For more details on this event and advice on how to prepare for it, everyone is invited to visit the SIM and MSP websites.
