Dialogue with Montréal's Chinese Community
Discover the incredible diversity of Montréal’s Chinese community, whose rich history has transformed the city’s cultural landscape over the years.
This dossier presents the articles and personal accounts that accompanied the exhibition Dialogue with Montréal’s Chinese Community, shown in Chinatown from May 26 to October 15, 2021. Documenting the voices and faces of the project’s participants, the thirteen life stories gathered here reflect the community’s incredible diversity, its often-overlooked history, and its resilience in the face of discrimination and challenges, past and present.
The exhibition was produced by the MEM – Centre des mémoires montréalaises, in partnership with the Chinese Family Service of Greater Montréal. It was part of the project Dialogue with Chinatown, an initiative of the City of Montréal. The exhibition’s ten photo modules lined rue De La Gauchetière between Saint-Dominique and Jeanne-Mance. Walking tours led by Chinese Montrealers provided further insights into the area’s history.
