Steve Foster won the 2013 Rights and Freedoms Prize awarded by the Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse, in recognition for “defending and promoting rights of LGBT persons”. He has dedicated the past fifteen years of his life to defending and promoting the social and legal rights of members of the LGBT+ community.

 

A true icon of LGBT+ activism, Steve Foster directed the Conseil québécois LGBT from 2005 to 2014, and the Chambre de commerce LGBT du Québec from 2015 to 2019. Under his management, these organizations gained recognition and credibility both on the social and community front, and within the political and business arenas. His terms in office were highlighted by major advancements with respect to the legal rights of transsexual adults in Québec.

Steve Foster was a member of numerous governing boards, including Concertation Montréal, Fédération des Chambres de commerce du Québec, Conférence régionale des élus de Montréal, Amnisty International, and the Réseau québécois de l’action communautaire autonome. He was also the columnist behind Solidairement vôtre, in Fugues magazine, from 2008 to 2015.
