A native of the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve district, he distinguished himself in childhood by his determination at school. He went on to found the Association des handicapés actifs de Montréal, and then, in the late 1970s, the organization Nous nous intégrons en commun, now known as Ex Aequo. Stricken by cerebral palsy, this tireless activist is involved in many concrete initiatives and sits on several boards of directors. His goal is to improve adapted transportation, access to housing, home services and the accessibility of Montreal's built environment. When he retired, he published Droits devant!, an invaluable contribution to improving living conditions for people with disabilities. A catalyst for social justice, Pierre-Yves Lévesque has expressed his convictions loud and clear, guided by his vision of necessary progress.
