Since 1990, Monika Ille has been actively involved in the media industry. Upon graduating with distinction from the UQAM, she first started working for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, then for the National Film Board of Canada, where she played a decisive role in developing a training program designed for Indigenous filmmakers.  She has been working for APTN for the past 18 years.

Monika Ille is the Chief Executive Officer of APTN, the first national Indigenous broadcaster in the world. Launched in 1999, APTN showcases the remarkably diverse mosaic of Indigenous peoples. APTN is a non-profit television broadcasting network with a charitable mission. It is well respected and unique in North America. The network shares its stories with great authenticity in English, French, as well as in various Indigenous languages, and has some 11 million subscribers across Canada.

A member of the Abenaki First Nation of Odanak, she has worked for Québec Native Women, and for the Assembly of First Nations. She is also part of the board of directors of the Youth Media Alliance, MediaSmarts, L’inis and Théâtre ESPACE GO. She sits on the NFB’s Indigenous Advisory Group and she serves as an industry adjudicator on the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council – Québec Regional Panel.
