Louise Roy has held upper management positions in the fields of urban transportation, air transportation and communications. She was CEO of the Société de transport de Montréal (1985-1992), Executive Vice-President for the Americas of Air France, in Paris (1994-1997), CEO of Telemedia Communications Inc. (1997-2000) and Senior Vice-President of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) (2000-2003).

In September 2003, Louise Roy became visiting fellow at CIRANO, and since 2012, has been chair of the board of directors of this applied public policy research centre. She was chancellor and chair of the Board of Université de Montréal from 2008 to 2018, and has become Chancellor Emeritus. 

Throughout her career, she was also a governing board member of the Power Financial Corporation, Intact Financial Corporation, the Institute of Corporate Directors, Provigo Inc., the Laurentian Bank of Canada, Vidéotron Ltd. and Domtar Corporation. She served as president of the Conseil des arts de Montréal, a cultural granting agency. Louise Roy is currently a member of the board of directors of Montréal International, the Opéra de Montréal, the Fondation du Concours musical international de Montréal (CMIM) and Aéroport de Montréal.
