Jobie Tukkiapik

Knight
2019

During his two terms as President of the Makivik Corporation, Jobie Tukkiapik made a remarkable contribution to the development of a network of points of service for Montréal’s itinerant Inuit population.

The Makivik Corporation, which he led from 2012 to 2018, represents the 12,000 Inuit of Nunavik in northern Québec. In just over ten years, the organization has invested more than $3 million to assist Inuit who are in need or are homeless in Montréal.

As part of his mandate, Jobie Tukkiapik implemented an action plan to assist this population in partnership with the Chez Doris women’s shelter, the Projets autochtones du Québec community organization, the Native Friendship Centre of Montréal and the Open Door drop-in centre. His actions have made it easier for Inuit living in precarious situations in Montréal to have access to health services and social programs, helping to improve their employability.
