Alvin C. Segal is President of the Men’s Clothing Manufacturers Association of Quebec and Vice-President of the Apparel Manufacturers Institute of Quebec and of the Canadian Apparel Federation. He played a pivotal role in negotiations leading to the Canada–U.S. Free Trade Agreement and NAFTA. He is also a member of SAGIT (Sectoral Advisory Groups on International Trade), under the authority of the Ministry of International Trade.
Alvin C. Segal is Chairman of the Board of the Segal Centre for Performing Arts, which bears his name. The Segal Centre is setting a broad vision by recognizing the importance of building bridges through the arts and supporting multicultural projects in Montréal. The mandate of the Segal Centre for Performing Arts is to make culture accessible.
Alvin C. Segal is also CEO of BioBubble Pets, a state-of-the-art company creating small animal habitats, located in Boca Raton, Florida.
For his contribution to the apparel industry, Alvin C. Segal was named to the Order of Canada in May 2002; in July 2010, he was promoted to Officer of the Order of Canada for his continued contributions to various organizations, notably in the arts and health care sectors, as well as education and social services.
Additionally, he was named an Officer of the Ordre national du Québec in June 2011 for his dedication and contribution to arts and heath care in the city of Montréal.
Alvin Segal’s generosity is legendary. He is eminently approachable and a person of great warmth. He has been a generous benefactor to the Montreal Jewish General Hospital, playing a key role in establishing the new Segal Cancer Centre for treatment and research at the Jewish General Hospital in 2006.
The Alvin Segal Family Foundation reflects Alvin’s generosity and ongoing support of culture, education and health care in Montréal and Israel. Among his beneficiaries are McGill Jewish Studies Teacher Training Program, the Fraser Institute, the Jewish Public Library, Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv, Atidim and Ben Gurion University, Federation CJA, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, Montréal Symphony Orchestra and Hebrew University of Jerusalem along with a myriad of other non-profit institutions. He also established the Segal McGill Chair in Molecular Oncology at the Jewish General Hospital in 2010.
Alvin C. Segal was inducted into the Academy of Great Montrealers in the Economic category in 2014 and was named a Commander of the Ordre de Montréal in 2016.
