Trang Hoang

Renowned researcher Trang Hoang has dedicated her life to fighting cancer. She is a pioneer in research and education in systems biology – an innovative and integrative approach to the study of biological processes.

She is part of a team of seven researchers who founded the Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer (IRIC), a multidisciplinary research centre focused on systems biology and cancer. In particular, she discovered the abnormal cells that cause certain types of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, the most common cancer in children.

Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology at the University of Montréal, Dr. Hoang and her colleagues created the first Canadian educational program in Systems Biology during her tenure as Director of Molecular Biology Programs. She mentored many students who have become faculty researchers in major research institutions or hold key positions with biopharmaceutical companies in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Mexico City, Toulouse, Shanghai and Tokyo.
