Although eliminating the isolation of pregnant women is a major concern for Vania Jimenez and Amélie Sigouin, the mission this mother-daughter team initially took on was to fight social inequality. This led them to found La Maison Bleue in 2007, to provide an innovative response to the many issues faced by vulnerable pregnant women, thereby creating a positive effect on the life trajectory of young children.

Providing a continuum of free, public services, the organization is an exemplary social asset born of a need that went unanswered by the existing system. Early, beneficial intervention for the optimal development of the child, from conception to age 5, combined with the participation of mothers and families, is the core of their prevention-oriented approach.

The four establishments that La Maison Bleue now operates some 13 years later, prove that it is possible to meet the perinatal needs of marginalized families and communities in Montréal.
