Jean Beaudin

Jean Beaudin has been a fixture on the Québec cinema and television scene as one of its most prominent writer-directors for over 40 years.

His first big success, J.-A. Martin photographe, was the first Canadian feature film to be shown at the Cannes Film Festival in 1977. The film won the Ecumenical Jury prize and Monique Mercure took home a Best Actress award for her leading role.

Mr. Beaudin has written many screenplays based on Québec works including Claude Jasmin’s La Sablière, retitled Mario; Yves Beauchemin’s Le Matou; the series Les Filles de Caleb by Arlette Cousture, which sold into 25 countries; Being at Home with Claude by René-Daniel Dubois; Souvenirs intimes by Monique Proulx and Chrystine Brouillet’s Le collectionneur.

His exceptional talent has been recognized with numerous awards. The diverse, gentle works of this great Montréal artist have enriched our cultural heritage.

Mr. Beaudin could not attend the investiture ceremony.
