Freda and Irwin Browns

Knight
2020

Pillars of Montréal’s philanthropic community for over 50 years, Freda and Irwin Browns are eminent proponents of our city’s social and artistic development.

Convinced of the importance of making art universally accessible, their work has extended across numerous cultural institutions, not only in dance, theatre and visual arts, but also to public libraries and museums such as the Montréal Museum of Fine Arts and its Centre for graphic arts.

They have also provided extensive support to various areas of medical research, as witness their support for the Montréal Oral School for the Deaf and for leading edge treatments for the elderly. They faithfully support not less than 90 organizations in the hospital and education sectors, working with disadvantaged persons and protecting children’s rights.

Their support for young people is further manifested in sponsored awards for excellence at McGill and Concordia universities, John Abbott College and the FACE school.
