Danièle Sauvageau

Officer
2023

It was Danièle Sauvageau's passion, instinct, and leadership that led to a historic victory at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics, where Canada won its first gold medal in women's hockey.

She is largely responsible for the current popularity of women's hockey. Danièle Sauvageau's other accomplishments over more than forty years as a significant pioneer in sport, particularly women's sport, are numerous. The launching of the Conseil du sport de Montréal and the notable creation of the 21.02 High Performance Hockey Centre in Verdun are among her greatest legacies, both contributing to the local and international recognition of Montréal as a leading sports metropolis.
