Trained as an optometrist in Montréal, with a degree in public health from Harvard, he developed sustainable eye care programs in Papua New Guinea and elsewhere in the world. Back in Montréal, he turned his attention to under-serviced areas, including prisons, Nunavik, and residential and long-term care centres. A professor at Université de Montréal's School of Optometry since 2016, the following year he founded Regard collectif, a mobile clinic offering free eye care services to people experiencing homelessness. This project embodies a more humanist vision of optometry practice, the professor and his students having delivered care to thousands of deserving patients. Benoît Tousignant transforms the way we look at the world. Through his actions and inspiring generosity, his vision reveals the treasures of social engagement. His research in community health also contributes to the city's reputation as an academic hub for international development.
