Alain Chartrand

Knight
2026

Co-founder, Artistic and Executive Director of the Coup de cœur francophone festival, Alain Chartrand has worked for more than four decades to promote and celebrate French-language song in all its many forms.

Since the founding of the event in 1987 in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, the impact of this quiet visionary on the Montréal and Canadian musical landscape has grown in scope and stature. Under his leadership, the festival has extended its reach beyond metropolitan Montréal through the creation, in 1995, of the Coup de cœur francophone pan-Canadian network, which today brings together partners from across the country to support the circulation and survival of artists, works, and audiences. A bridge-builder and animateur, Alain Chartrand has skillfully cultivated a space for dialogue, solidarity, and affirmation. From Montréal, his work has extended to national and international stages, through organizations dedicated to the dissemination, promotion, and development of an exceptional artistic identity.
