Setting up the search feature for page groups involves specifying a search results page, how many results to display on each result page, an advanced search link, and which Internet search engine to use.
Note: The values specified here are used by the Basic Search and Advanced Search portlets. They are also used to provide defaults for the Custom Search Portlet.
You can also set up Oracle Text searching, if required.
You
must be the portal administrator to set up the search feature.
To set up the search feature:
Click Search Settings in the Services portlet.
By default, the Services portlet is on the Administer tab of the Portal home page.
Note: All the options are
described in the online Help. Click to
display context sensitive Help for a particular screen.
In the Page Name field, enter the name of the page used to display
results from a custom search. To select a page, click .
The default is the Search Results Page.
You can override this setting for a particular Custom Search portlet, via its Edit Defaults option. See Using the custom search portlet.
Note: The Basic Search portlet always uses the "Basic Search Results Page". The Advanced Search portlet and (by default) the Custom Search portlet use the "Search Results Page".
Specify your Advanced Search Link options. Do one of the following:
Choose Page Name, to specify
a destination page for the Advanced Search link. Enter the name of
the page you want to use. To select a page, click .
The default is the Advanced Search Page.
Choose URL, to enter a URL for the Advanced Search link. Enter the URL you want to use. If you have created a customized search engine that you want to use for advanced searches throughout the portal, you can specify its link here.
You can specify an absolute URL, or a relative URL. For example, http://www.yahoo.com creates a link directly to this Internet search site. If you enter a relative URL (i.e. a portal package), the value specified here is appended to the Portal schema URL and this results in a call to the portal package. Note how the value is appended, depending on whether the value specified begins with '/':
/value results in this URL: http://webserver:portno/value
value results in this URL: http://webserver:portno/pls/dad/value
The details specified here are used for the Advanced Search link that is displayed on the Basic Search portlet and optionally on Custom Search portlets.
In the Hits Per Page field, enter the number of search results to display on each search results page. For example, if you specify 10, the first 10 results are displayed on the first search results page, the next 10 on the second page, and so on.
The value specified here is used by both the Basic Search and Advanced Search portlets. It is also used to provide a default hits per page value for Custom Search portlets.
Specify your Internet Search Engine options.
In the URL field, enter the URL for an Internet search engine. This allows users to extend their search if they do not find the information they need in Portal page groups.
For example, to use Yahoo as the Internet search engine, enter:
http://search.yahoo.com
In the Link Text field, enter the text that users click to access the specified Internet search engine and send it their search criteria.
For example, if you use Yahoo as the Internet search engine, you can enter Yahoo as the link text.
The details entered here are used for Internet Search Engine link that is displayed on the Advanced Search portlet and optionally on Custom Search portlets.
You can also set up Oracle Text searching.
