What is the Portlet Repository?

NoteYou must be the portal administrator to manage the Portlet Repository.

The Portlet Repository is a page group created by Oracle9iAS Portal during installation that contains all the available portlets. A sub-page is created for each provider; the portlets reside as items within each sub-page.

How is the Portlet Repository organized?

When you register a new provider on your local Portal instance, or when you register remote provider groups and perform a refresh, a page containing all the provider's portlets is created for each new provider under the New page in your Portlet Repository. In addition, as soon as an object in a page group is published to the portal, a page is created for that page group under the New page. You can then either move the portlets under another existing page, or create a new page in the Portlet Repository for the portlets. For example, if you have many portlets relating to a sales theme, you could create a page called Sales within the Portlet Repository, and move portlets from their original provider page to the Sales page.

Note: If you add a page manually to the Portlet Repository—say, in an attempt to add a new provider—bear in mind that the provider's portlets are not actually available until you register the provider with Portal.

Because the Portlet Repository is a page group, you can edit the pages in that page group to manage the providers and their portlets just as you would manage the content of any other page. You can edit the portlets in the Portlet Repository as you would any other item, for example to change the title of the portlet or to add a description or keywords.

Who can see the portlets in the Portlet Repository?

You have complete control over who actually sees the portlets in the Portlet Repository. Because each portlet provider is represented by a sub-page, you can use the page's Access tab to control which users may see the provider in the Portlet Repository. You can also apply security at the portlet level by editing the portlet in the Portlet Repository.
