Ranked among Canada's top tennis players in the 1970s, he settled in Montréal in 1988 to lead the Canadian Open tennis tournament. There he spearheaded the creation of the stadium and tennis centre at Parc Jarry. As Minister Delegate for Tourism, Recreation, and Sport from 2001, he put in place a series of foundational programs linking sport, tourism, and regional development, while also promoting investment in amateur sport and the development of athletic excellence across Québec. Executive Vice-President of the Montréal Impact from 2007 until his retirement in 2018, he led ambitious projects supporting the growth of soccer in Montréal. Through his energy, his passion, and his exemplary career, Richard Legendre has strengthened Montréal's international profile in the world of sport.
