A dancer from the beginning of his career, his early creations were quickly recognized by his peers as the precursor of a form of theatrical choreography. In the 1990s, he made his mark with his solo performances, including his daring Solo 30x30, in which he danced 30 minutes a day for 30 consecutive days in the same unusual location, offering passers-by unfamiliar with his art a close encounter. This performance was repeated in fourteen cities, including New York, Paris, London, Rome and Montréal.
Founder and director of his own dance company, Paul-André Fortier is regarded as a mentor by many up-and-coming choreographers, both at home and abroad.
