Launch of an international observatory on the societal impacts of artificial intelligence and digital technologies

Québec’s Chief Scientist, Rémi Quirion, has announced the launch of the new International Observatory on the Societal Impacts of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Science.

As a global AI research hub, the creation of the Observatory is the opportunity to bring together sector’s driving research forces, develop interdisciplinary collaborations on a multidimensional issue to support general, contextualized and interdisciplinary reflection and ultimately support the AI innovation ecosystem from a social perspective. Nearly twenty universities and college institutions, as well as nearly 90 research centers will work in collaboration with government agencies, civil society and the private sector in Québec, Canada and across the globe.

The initiative is financially supported by the Fonds de recherche du Québec, in partnership with the Ministère de l’Économie et de l’Innovation, at a rate of $ 1.5 million per year over five years for an overall budget of 7.5 $ million.
