What is a region?

A region is an area on a page that displays information and can contain either portlets, items, or tabs. When you first create a page, it consists of a single region.

After creating a page, you can edit it to add more regions, and edit those regions to specify whether they contain portlets or items.

You can also add tabs to a region (Add Tab). Each tab can be divided into its own regions to increase the amount of information that the page can contain.

When you edit a region, you can also specify many other region properties, such as the width of the region, whether to display a banner at the top of the region, whether to group items in an item region, or whether to display borders around the portlets in a portlet region.
