Creating a user account

To log in to Oracle Portal and have access to non-public information, a user must have a Single Sign-On user account and an Oracle Portal user account.

You only need to create the Single Sign-On account. An Oracle Portal account is created when you edit a user's Portal settings, or when a user logs on to Oracle Portal using the Single Sign-On account.

Note

You must be the Login Server administrator to create a Single Sign-On user account.

You must be the portal administrator to access the Administer tab of the Oracle Portal home page.

To create a Single Sign-On user account:

  1. On the Login Server home page, click Login Server Administration.

Note: If you are an Oracle Portal user, access the Oracle Portal home page's Administer tab. By default, this is where the Users portlet is located.

  2. Click Administer Users (for Login Server home page users only).

  3. Click Create New Users.

  4. In the User Name field, enter a unique user name for the account.

    Notes:

    • The user name is limited to 30 characters. Short passwords are easier for users to enter.

    • The first character of a user name must be alphanumeric (A-Z, a-z, 0-9). The remaining characters can include alphanumeric, and the underscore (_) and dollar ($) characters; no spaces or other special characters.

    • User names are not case-sensitive, therefore SCOTT, Scott, and scott are the same user name.

  5. In the Password field, enter a password for the account. The user enters this password to confirm that he or she is authorized to log on using the account.

  6. Enter the same password in the Confirm Password field to confirm that you entered it correctly.

    Notes:

  7. (Optional) In the E-Mail Address field, enter the user's e-mail address.

  8. In the Activate Account On field, enter the date when the user can start logging on using this account. Use the format specified to the right of the field.

  9. (Optional) In the Terminate Account On field, enter the date when the user will not be able to use the account to log on. Use the format specified to the right of the field.

Note: To make an account available indefinitely, leave the Terminate Account On field blank.

  10. In the Login Server Privileges list, choose what privileges to grant the user on the Login Server.

To edit the Portal user settings for the Single Sign-On user account, click the link at the top of the page.

  2. Click Close.

Note

  • To create a Single Sign-On account for a user, but restrict that user from logging on to Oracle Portal, make sure that the user is not an authorized Portal user.
