Building a structured UI template
When you build a structured UI template, you fill in an Oracle Portal wizard. You cannot use your own HTML code to extend the template beyond the pre-identified attributes. To achieve greater flexibility, you may want to see Building an unstructured UI template
If you are building a provider, you may apply either a structured or unstructured template. If you are building a page, only structured templates may be applied.
To create a structured UI template:
In the Oracle Portal Navigator, navigate to the list of User Interface Templates.
Click Create New... User Interface Templates.
Click Structured UI Template.
Enter a name for the template in the Template Name field. Because this is the name users will see when applying a UI template to a page or a database portlet during the build process, you should make the name as descriptive as possible. For example, if the template will be applied to all database portlets created for a scheduling provider, you could name it Schedule_Template.
Select other options to refine the look and feel of the UI template.
If you have a question about an option, click the small
button. Leave an option blank if you do not want to include it.
For example, you can choose an Image that will appear in the upper left corner of the template (capitol.gif) and a background image (clouds.gif) that will display behind the database portlet, as shown below.
(Optional) Click Preview to open a new browser window displaying the UI template based on the options you have selected.
You can reselect options on the Create Structured UI Template page, then click Preview again to see how they look in the UI template.
When you are satisfied with your option selections, click Create on the Create Structured UI Template page. If you have Manage shared database portlet access privileges, the page updates with a link for editing the UI Template.
(optional) To edit the UI template you just created, click the hypertext link at the top of the Create Structured UI Template page.
