Creating a navigation page

Navigation pages enable you to provide a standard set of navigational elements that can be included on the pages in a page group.

To create a navigation page, you must have at least one of the following privileges:

To create a navigation page:

  1. In the Navigator, click Contents next to the page group in which you want to create the navigation page.

Tip: If you want to be able to use this navigation page in more than one page group, create it in the Shared Objects page group.

  2. Click Create in the Navigation Pages row.

  3. In the Name field, enter a name for the navigation page.

Note: The name is used internally and for direct access URLs, and must be unique within the page group and the Shared Objects page group. The name is limited to 40 characters and can contain only alphanumeric characters (A-Z, a-z, 0-9) and the underscore (_) character. Do not use spaces or other special characters.

  4. In the Display Name field, enter a descriptive name for the navigation page.

In the Copy From list, choose a navigation page to use as a starting point for your new navigation page. If you want to create a completely blank navigation page, choose <None>.

Note: This list includes all the navigation pages in this page group on which you have at least View privileges.

  5. Select Publish As Portlet to make this navigation page available for page designers to add to their pages.

Eventually you will need to publish the navigation page as a portlet so that other users can add it to their pages. However, while the navigation page is under development, you might prefer to keep this check box cleared.

Note: If you do not see this check box, you do not have portlet publishing privileges. Contact your portal administrator to request these privileges.

  6. Click Create.

  7. Click the link in the confirmation message at the top of the page to edit the properties of your new navigation page.

Alternatively, you can create another navigation page, or click Close to return to the Navigator.

  8. After creating your navigation page, you can add items, portlets, and regions to it.
