Creating a Web provider

You can create a new Web provider, which can then be registered with other portals or added to a provider group.

NoteTo create a Web provider, you must have at least Create privileges on All Providers.

To create a Web provider:

  1. In the Navigator, click the Providers tab.

  2. At the root level of the Providers tab, click Web Provider next to the text Create New...

    Tip: This link appears at the top of the Providers tab.

  3. In the Provider Name field, enter a name for the new Web provider.

    Note: The name must be unique, and is limited to 60 characters. The name can contain only alphanumeric characters (A-Z, a-z, 0-9) and the underscore (_) character. Do not use spaces or other special characters.

  4. In the Display Name field, enter a more descriptive name for the new Web provider.

  5. Click Next.

  6. The Provider Location field displays the URL of your new Web provider. When registering the provider with other portals, this is the URL users will need.

  7. In the Timeout field, enter the number of seconds the portal should attempt to connect to this provider before timing out.

  8. In the Timeout Message field, enter the message to display within the body of the portlet when the portal cannot establish contact with the provider within the number of seconds specified in the Timeout field.

    Note: The message may not contain either mobile (mobileXML) or desktop (HTML) markup.

  9. In the Login Frequency list, choose how often to call the provider's initSession method. Choose:

  10. In the HTTP Proxy Host field, enter the address for the HTTP proxy server to use to access the provider. The proxy server prevents outsiders from breaking through your organization's firewall and accessing private networks.

  11. In the Proxy Port field, enter the port number for the proxy server.

    Note: If you do not specify a port, the default of 80 is used.

    Tip: Contact your server administrator for the names of servers running proxy software and their port numbers.

  12. Click Next.

  13. In the Login Server Address field, enter the URL for the provider's application login page. This will be used with the user name and password to log into the application.

  14. In the User Name Field field, enter the name of the user name field used by the application's standard login page.

  15. In the User Password Field field, enter the name of the password field used by the application's standard login page.

  16. In the Additional Field Name and Additional Field Value fields, enter any additional field names and values required for logging on to the application.

  17. Click Finish.
