Odour Treatment Unit at Aqueduc Park: Preliminary Work Under Way

23 septembre 2009

Montréal, September 23, 2009 - Sammy Forcillo, Vice-Chairman of Ville de Montréal's Executive Committee and responsible for Finance, Infrastructures, Roadwork and Water Management, took advantage of a recent stop in LaSalle to join Borough Mayor Manon Barbe in visiting the site of the next odour treatment unit, which will be constructed on the east side of the building at Aqueduc park. In June, a contract of $465,889 was granted to Axor Experts-conseils to prepare the plans and specifications of a treatment unit that is five times more powerful (20,000 p3/minute) than the one inaugurated in June 2008, corner boulevard LaSalle and avenue Lafleur. At the same time, a firm of architects is drafting the plans of a LEED-certified building (LEED = Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) to house the new unit, designed to resolve the olfactory nuisance problem along boulevard LaSalle, between rue Orchard and 75e Avenue. Once all the plans have been completed, a call for tenders will be issued this winter in order to construct the unit and the building this spring, so that operations there can start up in the fall of 2010. Ville de Montréal will be covering the construction costs, estimated at $3.5 million.
