Mexican delegation learns about the applications of geomatics in LaSalle

8 mai 2008

Montréal, May 8, 2008 - A delegation from the state of Jalisco in Mexico visited LaSalle on Monday, May 5, to find out how the borough efficiently uses geomatics tools in managing its territory. The Québec firm Géomax International, which develops this type of software, guided this delegation to LaSalle, as the borough makes high-tech use of geomatics in various applications, such as in the graphic register, zoning, cadastral information, assessment roll and building permits. The delegation consisted of José Luis de Alba González, Jalisco's minister of administration; Juan Manuel Marcos Castell Ramirez, general manager of computer technology in the government's administration department; and Ramón Valmaña Gutiérrez, projects general manager in the Jalisco governor's office.

Before listening to the technical presentations set up by civil servants, the Mexican delegation was welcomed at Borough Mayor Manon Barbe's office, who was delighted that Montréal—and LaSalle in particular—were being showcased for the state-of-the-art technologies that a Québec firm such as Géomax has developed in the field of geomatics. Moreover, Mayor Barbe mentioned to her Mexican visitors that because our respective economies share a number of aspects in common, including proximity to the important U.S. market, it is to our advantage to exchange our best practices. As for Minister de Alba, he expressed his desire to see more ties cultivated between the state of Jalisco and the province of Québec.
