During an awareness activity at Carrefour Langelier on September 17, 2015, prevention officers were approached by citizens concerning a fire that had started in a garbage can. Thanks to a rapid intervention on the part of the officers in question, the fire was quickly extinguished. The officers took the opportunity to raise awareness among the employees about the importance of refraining from putting cigarette butts or emptying ashtrays in garbage cans.

“Prevention officers continually work with citizens in an effort to raise awareness about all aspects of fire prevention. They also work to ensure compliance with the regulations in force. While most people in the general public know little about their work, prevention officers help save lives every day,” said department manager Stéphanie Lorrain (178). A heartfelt word of thanks goes out to officers Giuseppe Lo Dico, Sandra Lisi, Catherine Lavoie, Stefan Morelli and Annick Paquet for their rapid response.
