Warning siren test

Montréal, in collaboration with factories that use hazardous materials, is working to set an effective warning procedure to reduce the risks associated with a major industrial accident. The Centre de sécurité civile of Montréal, in collaboration with participating factories, has prepared a drill to test its warning sirens, the details of which are provided below.

Since sound waves are influenced by weather conditions, it is possible that all persons located within hearing range (as indicated on the map below) will actually hear the siren. People who are indoors may not hear the siren, which is normal. The purpose of the siren is to warn people who are outdoors that they must seek shelter. Persons who are indoors will be alerted by radio and television.

This drill aims to make sure that all sirens are working correctly and assess the state of preparedness of all emergency first responders. Attached below is a pamphlet to help people understand what actions to take in the event of a major industrial accident and when they hear a warning siren.

Duration: Every alert siren cycle will last at least three minutes. More than one cycle may sound at every site.
