Public alerts

A number of emergencies could occur in Montreal, including:

  • Extreme storms
  • Accidents involving the transportation of dangerous materials
  • Flooding
  • Industrial accidents, etc.

These events could put your life in danger, or you may need to seek shelter.

In the event of a disaster, public alerts are essential. A public alert consists of broadcasting a signal or message to alert you to danger, whether imminent or underway, that could have consequences for your health or safety.

In Montreal, two types of public alerts have been implemented by the Civil protection center and its partners: the community alert service and alert sirens.
