Citizens of Tomorrow

Level   Primary - Cycles 2 and 3
Duration of the tour

One day: 9 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.

From Septembre 2018 to February 2019, except in November, City Hall cannot receive any groups.

Place   At the Centre d’histoire de Montréal (Montréal Five Times permanent exhibition and multipurpose room) and city hall (archival vaults and council chamber).
Capacity   One class per day
Language   French and English.

“Citizens of Tomorrow” is an original approach to teaching students about municipal democracy. They will have the opportunity to visit places where the memory of the city and its history are preserved. Throughout the day, students will discover the city’s history and the achievements of past mayors, have the experience of voting, and learn about democracy and city administration. Finally, they will get a sense of their future role as citizens.

Note: Activities can be done in class only if it is not possible for you to leave the classroom.

In collaboration with the Archives de Montréal and the city council chair’s office.

Inviting an elected official to join you at city hall

You can ask an elected official from your borough to be present for your tour of city hall. You must contact the official yourself if you would like him or her to be present. If an elected official is with them, students will have the opportunity to sign the guestbook at city hall.

Please notify Ms. Arcelle Appolon at city hall by calling 514-872-0077 if an elected official will be joining you.
