Wired. City Life and Montrals Commission des services lectriques, 1914 to 1933

Wired: City Life and Montrals Commission des services lectriques, 1914-1933. The photographs that make up Wired offer wonderful candid shots of Montral life between 1914 and 1933. The Commission des services lectriques has been overseeing the burial of Montral's electrical wiring for nearly 100 years. In order to document this operation, the Commission asked professional photographers to produce a series of images showing the streets before, during and after roadwork. The main goal of these technical photographs is neither aesthetic nor artistic; they are meant as documentation. What interested the Commission was poles and wires! And yet, thanks to a myriad of details, we are treated to unexpected glimpses of daily life in Montral.

This exhibition, presented in 2006 by the Centre d'histoire de Montral and the Section des archives de la Direction du Greffe de la Ville de Montral, in collaboration with the Commission des services lectriques de la Ville de Montral, received financial support from Bell Canada, Hydro-Qubec and Vidotron.
