Lawn watering: the new Ville de Montréal's by-law on the use of drinking water is in force in the Pierrefonds-Roxboro Borough

July 4, 2013

In order to promote water saving principles and to have a single regulation, eliminating regulatory gaps between boroughs, Ville de Montréal has adopted a new by-law on the use of drinking water. This by-law is now in force throughout Montréal, including the Borough of Pierrefonds-Roxboro.

According to the new by-law lawn watering should be done as by the the following schedule:

Lawn watering by a porous hose or a removable sprinkler should be done:

  • on an even or odd date according to the address;
  • only between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Lawn watering using an automatic system should be done:

  • on an even or odd date according to the address;
  • only between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m.;
  • while using a humidity sensor.

Manual watering can be done:

  • at all times, except in case of rain.

Unlike the previous by-laws in force in Pierrefonds and Roxboro, this unique by-law is in effect in both borough sectors. In addition, and according to the new by-law, lawn watering is now permitted on Mondays. It should be noted that no permit is required for lawn watering in the case of seeding or sodding, and that's for 15 days.
