Libraries

Loans and membership

Members may borrow up to a maximum of 40 documents from the Montréal libraries network as a whole for 21 days for all types of document except DVDs, which are loaned out for 7-day periods (21 days for box sets).

Renewals

A document that is not late or reserved by someone else may be renewed up to three times. Renewal can be done in person, by telephone, or online using the Nelligan Catalogue.

Reservation

Members may reserve documents (maximum 25) and have them sent to the Library of their choice. The member will be advised by email or telephone messaging system of the document(s) availability and will then have two working days to claim them at the member’s Library. Reservation can be done in person, or online using the Nelligan Catalogue.

Returns

Members may return their documents to the Library of their choice using the returns box located outside the Library.

Late documents

Members are required to return their documents by their loan due dates. Late fees will be added to the file for any document returned after the due date. Members who are late will receive a telephone message advising them of the fact.

Borrowing rights will be denied members who have accumulated fees in their file to a total of $3 for adults and $2 for youths or seniors.

Lost, defaced or damaged documents

Members are responsible for borrowed documents that are lost or defaced and must pay the price of the document or the costs of repairing a damaged document at rates then in effect, plus administration fees of $5.

Members who find a document within a year of having paid for it, they may be reimbursed only for the price of the document. The administration fees are not reimbursable.

Library cards

A Library membership card is mandatory for borrowing documents and for use of Montreal library network computer stations. It can be obtained at the Library desk. Proof of residence and identity are required for joining, renewing membership and change of address.

Users are responsible for their Library card, their use of it, and documents borrowed with the card. The signatory (parent, tutor or other) of the registration form of a youth under the age of 14 years is responsible for documents borrowed by said youth. In the event of loss or theft, the signatory must advise the Library without delay. A fee of $3 is charged for replacing a lost card.
