Cyclists and pedestrians to share sidewalks under seven overpasses in CDN—NDG

May 6, 2014

Following upon a similar measure undertaken by the borough of Rosemont—La Petite-Patrie, the Côte-des-Neiges—Notre-Dame-de-Grâce (CDN—NDG) Borough is adopting a new measure aimed at improving the safety of cyclists. From now on, cyclists will be able to ride alongside pedestrians on the sidewalks under seven overpasses on borough territory.

In the days to come, signs indicating a pedestrian/cyclist shared lane will be installed under the following overpasses:

  • Cavendish tunnel (under boul. De Maisonneuve and the CP railway track)
  • Girouard tunnel (under boul. De Maisonneuve and the CP railway track)
  • Upper-Lachine tunnel (under the CP railway track)
  • Côte-Saint-Luc tunnel (under avenue Fielding)
  • Décarie tunnel (under rue Vézina and the CP railway track)
  • Victoria tunnel (under the CP railway track)
  • Côte-des-Neiges tunnel (under the CP railway track)

This new measure is supported by the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal. Police chiefs from the neighbourhood police stations 11 and 26, who are responsible for ensuring public safety on CDN—NDG borough territory, would like to remind the public that reckless behaviour will be subject to fines.

The Borough is counting on the courtesy of cyclists to avoid any incidents when they ride alongside pedestrians.
