Resources to dispose of dead leaves

October 10, 2013

The borough of Côte-des-Neiges—Notre-Dame-de-Grâce (CDN—NDG) is home to an impressive green canopy, one that requires extra work at this time of year. Collecting dead leaves is a challenge both for residents and contractors and for municipal departments. The Borough is therefore soliciting the collaboration of everyone in order to put an end to the practice of dumping leaves on public streets.

Since it is forbidden to dump or blow dead leaves onto the street, CDN—NDG is offering additional resources for disposing of them.

Green waste collection
The fall collection of green waste takes place on Wednesdays from September 18 to November 20, 2013. Residents may dispose of dead leaves and gardening waste by placing them in compostable paper bags or rigid waste containers (and not plastic bags).

Remember that branches from deciduous trees are excluded from the collection of green waste due to the emerald ash borer infestation.

Public works yards open to contractors and residents
Contractors and residents are invited to bring their loads of dead leaves to one of two public works yards in CDN—NDG at no charge:

  • Madison public works yard (2140, avenue Madison): Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Darlington public works yard (6960, avenue Darlington): Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Increased surveillance
The practice of dumping or blowing dead leaves onto public streets is subject to fines. This fall, the Borough will be paying close attention to non-compliers, who will be fined on the spot.
