In-ground and above-ground swimming pools
Whether for above-ground, collapsible, inflatable, or in-ground types,
swimming pool installation or construction is prohibited without the prior
acquisition of a permit.
Must a pool fence be installed?
It is mandatory to
install a fence around a swimming pool or around any artificial outdoor swimming
basin whose sides are less than 1.2 m in height (1.4 m for collapsible swimming
pools). This fence must:
- Be located at least 1 m away from the basin’s edge
- Be no less than 1.2 m high and no more than 2 m high
- Be built in such a way as to prevent it from being easily scaled and to
prevent a round object more than 10 cm in diameter from passing through it
- Have, at each access point, a gate equipped with a passive security lock
(installed on the inside of the fence in the upper portion of the door) so
that the door shuts and locks itself automatically
As part of your permit request, bring the following documents to the Permits and inspections division service
desk:
- The location certificate (2 copies)
- A draft of the project (2 copies)
- A cost estimate
- The contractor’s contact information, if applicable
- Payment for the survey fees
- A mandate from the owner is required if the permit is applied for by
proxy
