Green waste collection returns on April 23: Tree branches will no longer be accepted

Saint-Laurent, April 20, 2012 – Green waste collection will take place from April 23 to October 26 according to the same schedule as recycling collection. Green waste must be placed on the curb in paper bags (not plastic) or in reusable containers.

Please note that tree branches will no longer be collected with green waste.

Accepted materials

Gardening residue from clearing and other landscape maintenance projects:

· Yard dethatching residue

· Waste from vegetable gardens and fruit trees

· Lawn clippings

For tree branch pickup: dial 311

In order to prevent ash borers from spreading, residents may no longer dispose of tree branches, regardless of the species, in the same bags or containers as those reserved for any other collections in Saint-Laurent.

If residents wish to discard tree branches, they must place them outside, in small bundles, on the curb of their property, and dial 311 for collection.

Residents and corporate citizens who use the services of a specialized company for landscaping work must ensure that it complies with the measures in effect to slow the spreading of ash borers.

Originally from Asia, since 2002, the ash borer has caused the demise of more than 20 million ash trees in North America. Because the borer thrives in ash bark, including in dead wood, Saint-Laurent asks its citizens to support the collective efforts and help to reduce the potential damage caused by the insects.
