Summer jobs for students

On February 1, the federal government launched its access to employment program for students called Canada Summer Jobs. This year, the Youth Employment Strategy Canada initiative aims to offer jobs to students which provide services in the community and match with local needs and priorities.

Jobs will be posted starting in May for secondary, college and university students who are enrolled in school for the fall term and who would like to gain work experience in their field of study.

Eligibility

  • You must be between the ages of 15 and 30(inclusively) at the time the job begins;
  • You must have been enrolled as a full-time student for the previous school year and intend to return as a full-time student for the next school year;
  • You must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or designated as a refugee under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;
  • You must be legally authorized to work in Canada with respect to the appropriate legislation and provincial by-laws;
  • You must be able to start work between May 4 and July 20, 2009, and end work no later than August 29, 2009.

Application procedure

  • Refer to the "Emploi étudiant" heading in the "Offres d’emplois" section (in French) for information on each of the jobs offered;
  • Complete a job application form (in French) for each position, making sure to indicate the job title and reference number. Attach a copy of your most recent transcript of grades and any other required document;
  • Attach proof of your registration at an educational institution for next fall. If this is not available, it must be produced when you are hired;
  • Attach a copy of your birth certificate or, if you are an immigrant, proof of your status as a permanent resident of Canada;
  • Send your information to the person whose name appears on the job posting in any of the ways mentioned in the application section;
  • Incomplete applications or applications sent after the deadline will not be considered;
  • Please note that no acknowledgment of receipt will be sent;
  • Only selected candidates will be contacted.

Principles of equality
