Saint-Laurent, October 9, 2019 – The traditional Walk for Seniors of Saint-Laurent, organized by the Comité aînés du Comité des organismes sociaux de Saint-Laurent (COSSL), provided an opportunity for everyone who turned out for this event to take part in physical activity on a bright sunny day on October 5, 2019.
Joined by Saint-Laurent Council members, the walkers had the option of choosing the 1.3- or 2.7-km routes through the Borough's streets. Taking advantage of the gathering, various groups and community associations set up booths at the Centre des loisirs to explain the useful services and resources for Saint-Laurent seniors.
"The Walk for Seniors is a chance for Saint-Laurent Council to highlight the contribution and dynamic spirit of Saint-Laurent's seniors during a day that is not only festive, but also active," Saint-Laurent Mayor Alan DeSousa was pleased to mention.
As it may be recalled, the purpose of the Walk for Seniors is to mark the International Day of Older Persons on October 1, as proclaimed by the United Nations. This international organization created this celebration to raise public awareness of issues affecting this group, such as aging and abuse. This day also highlights the contributions made by seniors to society.
