Saint-Laurent, November 8, 2018 — At its general meeting on November 6, Saint-Laurent Council appointed Aref Salem as Deputy Mayor for the period from November 8, 2018 to March 8, 2019. Mr. Salem will replace and represent the Mayor of Saint-Laurent, Alan DeSousa, if he is unavailable.
Elected in 2009 as the City Councillor for the Norman-McLaren district of the Borough of Saint-Laurent, Aref Salem is also the Vice-Chair of Montréal's Transport and Public Service Commission and a member of Montréal's Council Presidency Commission.
Aref Salem's university journey culminated in two degrees, specifically a Bachelor of Microbiology from Université de Montréal and a Bachelor of Business Administration from HEC Montréal. Very present in the Saint-Laurent community, Mr. Salem is particularly interested in matters involving socially responsible economic development. Among other commitments, he has worked with the Chambre de commerce et d'industrie de Saint-Laurent and currently chairs the Cégep de Saint-Laurent's Board of Directors.
