Launching of the International Observatory of Mayors on Living Together

15 juin 2016

Montréal, le 15 juin 2016 -The Mayor of Montréal, the Honorable Denis Coderre, today launched the International Observatory of Mayors on Living Together, a network of cities and a platform for the exchange of experiences, innovative initiatives and knowledge in the fields of cohesion, inclusion and urban security. It is made up of 28 cities on four continents.

The launching took place one year after the Living Together Summit, which was held in Montréal in June 2015. The decision to create the Observatory was made at this Summit. It was endorsed at the request of the mayors who understood the relevance and usefulness of such a measure.

“The International Observatory of Mayors on Living Together is a first when it comes to local governments. It will enable key players to document the new challenges and innovative best practices that are associated with Living Together, on the international scene, through close cooperation with universities and research centres in member cities. I am pleased that Montréal will be home to the Observatory's central secretariat for a period of five years,” said the Mayor of Montréal.

The Observatory is unique in that it is made up of original partnerships between member cities and their respective universities and research centres. The Observatory website already lists more than 25 innovative initiatives for Living Together. It will include original research as well as case studies on some of these initiatives.
