Papiers: The Pierrefonds Public Library's work of art!

9 mars 2016

(Pierrefonds-Roxboro, March 9, 2016) – The Pierrefonds-Roxboro Borough Council has granted, at its March 7, 2016 regular sitting, an artistic services contract to Mrs. Sarah Bertrand-Hamel for the creation and installation of the "Papiers" work of art.

"The integration of a work of art to the Pierrefonds Public Library is a completely natural link with this place already defined as a 3rd Place; A place that will become an important hub of activities for the whole family. A location where knowledge and imagination will join the talent, ability and imagination of an artist illustrated by the creation of a work of art. In a society, art is multifunctional and it reflects the community's quality of life, dynamism and surrounding energy.", declared Mr. Dimitrios (Jim) Beis, Mayor of the Borough of Pierrefonds-Roxboro, and Member of Ville de Montréal's Executive Committee, responsible for procurement, sports and recreation, and communities of diverse origins.

This work of art will be carried out as part of the Pierrefonds Public Library renovation and expansion project in compliance with the Politique d'intégration des arts à l'architecture et à l'environnement des bâtiments et des sites gouvernementaux et publics.

The costs associated with this work of art are $120,000 approximately of which 69.59% will be paid by the Ville centre and 30.41% by the borough.

In April 2015, the Borough of Pierrefonds-Roxboro has mandated the Service de la culture de la Ville de Montréal to organize an invitation-based contest for the integration of a work of art to the Pierrefonds Public Library renovation and expansion project. 23 artists were invited to submit a candidature file. Among the 23 artists, 3 finalists were designated to build a model of their work of art. At the end of the process, the jury has unanimously recommended the proposition of Mrs. Sarah Bertrand-Hamel.
