Opening February 27, 2 p.m.: «Faux-semblants» exhibition at Centre d'exposition Lethbridge
26 février 2016
February 25 – May 1, 2016, the Borough of Saint-Laurent and Centre d'exposition Lethbridge in the Bibliothèque du Boisé will be welcoming the Faux-semblants collective exhibition prepared by Curator Catherine Barnabé. This exhibition presents the works of five budding artists: Maude Bernier-Chabot, Patrick Bérubé, Simon Bilodeau, Karine Payette and duo Pierre & Marie.
The term faux-semblant implies a departure from what is real, an art of pretence that the five artists—brought together for this exhibition—have brilliantly mastered by using very eclectic materials: toy, candle, sequin, wood, silicon, resin. The artists impose no limits on themselves to create unexpected worlds capable of casting doubt among the spectators.
In this way, installation, sculpture, photography, projection, drawing and painting propose a path marked by the very temporality of the works, veiling and unveiling fragments to be reconstituted like so many clues to trace back the thread of events. The spectator becomes an active interlocutor when faced with each piece: What happened? Where are we? What we believe we perceive is in fact only the result of a clever illusion that opens the valves of the imagination to relate something different every time.
The exhibition catalogue, signed by the curator, will be presented on opening day, Saturday, February 27, and copies may be purchased at that time.
