A Project Under the Signs of Universal Accessibility and Sustainable Development
20 juillet 2012
Pierrefonds-Roxboro, on July 20, 2012 - At its special sitting held on Thursday, July 19, the Borough Council has granted to the firm "Les Entrepreneurs Bucaro" a $746,019.54 contract to reconstruct the Borough Hall's parking lot, to redevelop the west entrance of the building and to rehabilitate deficient lighting.
Works will be carried out from August 17 to September 30, 2012 inclusively. This project was elaborated with the perspective to promote universal accessibility while respecting the Pierrefonds-Roxboro Borough's Strategic Plan for Sustainable Development guidelines.
Universal accessibility The Borough of Pierrefonds-Roxboro is committed to making universal accessibility a reality. Therefore, the redevelopment of the Borough Hall's west entrance includes, among others, the construction of an access ramp for persons with reduced mobility.
"Facilitating universal access to the Pierrefonds-Roxboro Borough Hall will have direct impact on citizens with reduced mobility. The works to be carried out meet the Council members' objectives and social values; for us, it is essential that all citizens have easy access to the Borough Hall." said Mrs. Monique Worth, Mayor of the borough of Pierrefonds-Roxboro.
Sustainable development The Borough Hall's parking lot will be reconstructed while taking into consideration the fight against urban heat island effect and greenhouse gas emissions. Thus, the parking lot width will be reduced, bike racks will be added and two parking spaces with charging stations will be reserved for electric vehicles. The said stations will be installed as part of a project in partnership with Hydro-Québec.
The project involves also the conversion of existing lighting into energy efficient lighting (LED).
Traffic hindrance During the construction period, the number of parking spaces available will be limited and the Borough Hall will only be accessible through the east side. If necessary, citizens are invited to use the parking lot of the library.
