Permits and by-laws
The boroughs are in charge of issuing permits. Each borough has a permit counter where you can apply for the permit you need.
Here is a list of some of the permits available at your borough’s service counter:
- Dog tags
- Environmental permits
- Building permits (swimming pool, garage, fence, renovation, telecommunications, etc.)
- Commercial occupancy
- Parking stickers
For more details, see information specific to your borough.
Since January 1, 2002, municipal legislation has been shared between Montréal and its boroughs. By-laws of former municipalities are sometimes still in force, but may have been amended by by-laws adopted by the new city or its boroughs. You can consult by-laws online.
