2017 Swearing-In Ceremony
On November 16, the candidates elected in Montréal’s general election and the city’s mayor will be sworn in at the Marché Bonsecours in Old Montréal. They will be named elected officials and will swear an oath for a four-year term.
Elected officials’ oaths
In Québec, article 313 of the Act Respecting Elections and Referendums in Municipalities states that elected officials must be sworn in no later than 30 days following their election.
An oath is a major legal action, because the term of the elected official only begins once he or she is sworn in.
