Let’s Act Accordingly

Snow removal in Montréal
  1. This winter, make safety your foremost priority during snowstorms and snow removal operations.
  2. Be cautious when travelling:
    • Avoid or delay travelling when possible, especially in dangerous weather conditions (ice, rain, freezing rain).
    • Give city employees time to make roads and sidewalks safe.
  3. Use public transportation and leave earlier when possible.
  4. Adapt your actions to winter conditions. Pay close attention, be extra cautious, follow safety rules, drive more slowly and keep your distance.
  5. Show civic-mindedness and courtesy, and help to speed up snow removal operations:
    • Read and obey all signs. Park correctly.
    • Do not shovel snow into public areas.
  6. Snow removal operations require everyone’s cooperation: Snow removal teams, pedestrians and drivers share responsibility for making sure snow removal operations take place safely and effectively.
  7. In Montréal, removing snow and making sure the network of 6,550 kilometres of sidewalks and 4,100 kilometres of roads requires an enormous amount of work and strategic know-how. A number of issues can impede operations, including narrow streets, sloping streets, density of traffic, inclement weather conditions, the distance for snow-loading trucks to travel and environmental regulations.
  8. Significant snow accumulation complicates travel and road traffic. Please be cautious … and extra patient!
