 | Let’s Act Accordingly
- This winter, make safety your foremost priority during snowstorms and snow removal operations.
- Be cautious when travelling:
- Avoid or delay travelling when possible, especially in dangerous weather conditions (ice, rain, freezing rain).
- Give city employees time to make roads and sidewalks safe.
- Use public transportation and leave earlier when possible.
- Adapt your actions to winter conditions. Pay close attention, be extra cautious, follow safety rules, drive more slowly and keep your distance.
- Show civic-mindedness and courtesy, and help to speed up snow removal operations:
- Read and obey all signs. Park correctly.
- Do not shovel snow into public areas.
- Snow removal operations require everyone’s cooperation: Snow removal teams, pedestrians and drivers share responsibility for making sure snow removal operations take place safely and effectively.
- In Montréal, removing snow and making sure the network of 6,550 kilometres of sidewalks and 4,100 kilometres of roads requires an enormous amount of work and strategic know-how. A number of issues can impede operations, including narrow streets, sloping streets, density of traffic, inclement weather conditions, the distance for snow-loading trucks to travel and environmental regulations.
- Significant snow accumulation complicates travel and road traffic. Please be cautious … and extra patient!
