Filing a claim with the Ville de Montréal
A number of situations may result in claims filed with the Ville de Montréal.
The Cities and Towns Act sets out the general rules for filing a claim. However, the Charter of Ville de Montréal also contains specific rules of which you should be aware.
Material damages

- A 15-day notice is required
The Ville de Montréal must receive a written notice within 15 days following the incident.
Legal action may be undertaken no later than six months from the date of the incident.
Bodily injuries

Although not mandatory, advance notice is advisable.
- Prescription: three years
Legal action may be undertaken no later than three years from the date of the incident.
