Culture Fourth Pillar of Sustainable
Development
The Ville de Montréal responds favourably to the United Cities
and Local Governments (UCLG) world secretariat’s call for the
promotion of culture as one of the four pillars of sustainable
development, in the same way as social, economic and environmental
development, in view of the Rio Summit to be held in June

2007-2017 Action Plan
After considering and discussing the issues for two days during the
November 2007 Rendez-vous (link to the Web site Montréal, métropole
culturelle, section Rendez-vous novembre 2007), the 2007-2017 Action
Plan – Montréal, cultural metropolis became the road map for all those
who are committed to the economic and cultural development of
Montréal. |
Cultural
diversity
"Considering that cultural diversity is part of the common heritage
of humanity and that their success is vitally important to Montréal’s
cultural future, the city will support the Coalition for cultural
diversity, as well as the governments of Québec and Canada, in their
international interventions as well as in their information and
promotion initiatives aimed at Montréal’s social actors and
population." |
Cultural
facilities
Above and beyond their considerable economic contribution and the
tourism they generate, Montréal’s cultural institutions, particularly
its museums, play a fundamental educational role that contributes to the
development of a sense of civic pride. Reminders of the past and places
of culture, museums enable Montrealers of all backgrounds to encounter
other cultures. |
Digital
arts
Through its digital art production and centres, the remarkable
contribution of its creators and universities, the quality of its online
journals, the renown of its cybercultural thinkers and the innovation of
its researchers, Montréal enjoys an enviable reputation in the
international cybercultural
scene. |
